The teasing jab earns a glare, though one devoid of any real malice. She’d let it slide, all things considered— even if he was an ass, Ruby seemed to be trying to do something sincerely nice for once. May was well give him a chance, right?
“…. ‘kay. ‘m alright with that.” She concedes with a small nod. “S’long as you’re not tryin’ anything sneaky here, it… sounds pretty nice, actually. Y’said you don’t mind where we go though? Cuz… I mean… if it’s up t’me… there’s a nice lil place in Oldale. Ain’t real big, kinda a mom’n pop deal so I wouldn’t be surprised if it ain’t your scene but… “
So he didn’t get any kind of punch or kick for that little remark of his. Ruby must have been really lucky today for that to have happened. Either way, at leats things were starting to go better than he thought they would be. He thought that Sapphire probably wouldn’t have wanted to actually do anything today; or just laugh at him for even trying to do anything like this so suddenly. She wasn’t exactly a girl that he could figure out 24/7.
“Oldale, huh?” Thinking on it for a moment, the male seemed to give a soft smile as a hand quickly took hers. “All right! Looks like we have our destination. Let’s go.” Suddenly he was leading her toward the next town over, seeming to want to enjoy the nice scenery from Littleroot to Oldale.

Why did he keep bringing up Valentines day? Sapphire honestly feels like she’s missing some key aspect to all of this but, hell, asking seemed far too awkward. Part of her was still a smidge suspicious admittedly but what harm could going along with it cause? It was just Ruby, after all, and even he couldn’t be up to anything too bad.
“…. a’ight.” She concedes with a small nod. “Wait… s’that mean I gotta wash up’n dress nice and stuff? If we’re going out to eat or somethin’ like that, I mean.”
Good. She was going to go with him to dinner at least. It made him a little glad that she wanted to. In all honest, he felt a little bad lately. Something seemed to be really bugging Sapphire but he just wasn’t sure. Or maybe he was sure and was just pretending to not know. Either way, Ruby hoped that maybe doing something would make her feel a little better.
“Well usually yes, but I’m not going to make you this time. As long as you’re washed up then we can go as we are. And I don’t think I can deal with trying to get you into any kind of dress right now.” There was a brief smirk on his face as he teased her. Yet if he didn’t watch it then he might just get a good whack to the jaw as a return gift.
“… I find this both good and bad, Why are you wanting me to be yours?” Didn’t seem like she had been acting like her usual self. Did he do something wrong without realizing it again? Why did she want him to be hers? Was she going to hurt him badly? So many questions are running through his mind. Most of them are wondering if he was going to get hurt or have to get majorly dirty.
So all of this was genuine, then? The thought is equal parts embarrassing and, well… confusing. It’s not like Sapphire Birch was the first pick of girls when you wanted a Valentines date, much less when it came to someone like Ruby whose standards of beauty seemed so picky. Sure, they were friends but there was always that unspoken assumption that he found her gross or unruly or—-
”H-Hey now…. don’t put words in my mouth…” She mumbles, a hand rubbing at the back of her head. “I mean… ‘m fine with all’a that. Just a little confused why you’re askin’ me in the first place. Er… if you’re sure though….”
“Well… You’re a really close person to me. I wanted to do something nice. It is also Valentine’s Day and, though I’m not usually one to plan things, I thought maybe you’d want to do something for today…” He turned his head away from her, giving the back of his own head a rub. This seemed to be both awkward and worrisome for him. Should he not have tried to do something for her..?
“I made the plans… It’s up to you if you want to accept them. I won’t force you into going out with me tonight.”
“What? No! Nothing went wrong with someone else. Am I not allowed to do something nice every once in awhile? I just thought maybe you’d like the gifts is all. Would you rather I take them back then?” Wow, you do something nice for a girl you like and the next thing you know she thinks that you struck out with some other girl. What other girl would he even be going after? That must have been some random thought she had.
“I guess you won’t want the dinner either or the other gift I had planned for you… Man, after so much planning and fishing.”
The comment earns a tentative roll of the eyes— stale, it was all so stale. How many times was the comparison going to be drawn? Sure, she was a little less than cultured but did that make her an animal of all things? The thought brings a scowl to her features and hands to her hips.
If he calls me a cavewoman again, I’m going to throttle him.
“Oh, whatever.” She dismisses with a small huff. “Only reason y’caught me was cuz I wasn’t payin’ attention. If it was a fair fight? Ain’t no way you would’a came anywhere close.”
"Not catch you? I think I could easily do that if I wanted to.” He gave a shrug with a rather smug smirk on his face, not even thinking it could be a tough challenge. Though really, why would he want to do that? Unless…
“If I do catch you, then what do I get for it?” He put his hand to his chin in thought, wondering what would be such an amazing prize that he would love to receive. Then it dawned on him. “I got it If I catch you, then you have to dress up and take part in one contest. If I can’t catch you then you can have anything you want.”
This boy really was begging to get throttled, wasn’t he? Sapphire’s brows twist into a scowl the moment she realizes she’s been netted, a sharp glare shot in the direction of the perpetrator as she tries her damnedest to resist the urge to punch that smug face.
“An’ jus’ what d’ya think you’re doin’, huh…?! I ain’t a Pokemon, y’know!”
"Hmm… Maybe. But you do seem to act like one.” He gave a brief chuckle into his hand while removing the net from her. It looked like this little joke may have made her pretty angry. This was what he wanted to do though to surprise her.
“I’m just having a little bit of fun. Is that such a bad thing?” He tossed the net aside, not needing it anymore since it was just for the one joke.
